Precision Punch And Die

Common Punch & Die Problems We Help Solve

In stamping and forming production, small tooling problems can quickly lead to burrs, chipped edges, poor part quality, and unexpected downtime.
We help customers improve tool performance through proper material selection, precision machining, surface finishing, and coating support.

01

Premature Chipping & Breakage

Punches chip or break prematurely before reaching target stroke counts. This unexpected tool failure causes massive downtime and costly maintenance in high-speed stamping lines.

02

Poor Fit & Misalignment

Tight die clearances lead to assembly issues and side-loading. This uneven wear destroys cutting edges and risks catastrophic die crashes during progressive stamping.

03

Galling & Material Pick-up

Sticky materials cold-weld onto the punch surface (galling). This pick-up increases dimensions, heavily scores die buttons, and produces severe part burrs, forcing immediate line stoppages.

04

Complex Profile Inaccuracy & Uneven Clearance

Complex shaped punches fail to align perfectly with die cavities. This creates uneven cutting clearances, generating severe part burrs and accelerating localized tool wear.

Custom Punch & Die Components We Manufacture

We manufacture custom punches, dies, and stamping tool components based on your drawings.
From carbide punches to HSS tool steel punches, forming dies, and shaped profiles, we help customers replace worn tooling, reduce downtime, and keep stamping production stable.

Punch & Die Applications for Precision Stamping

We manufacture custom punches, die inserts, and forming components for different stamping applications.
From connector terminals to lead frames and deep-drawn parts, our tooling helps improve cutting quality, reduce burrs, and keep production stable.

Connector Terminal Stamping

For connector terminal stamping, small pitch, thin material, and high-speed production can quickly cause burrs, edge wear, and dimensional drift. Sundi manufactures carbide punches, dies, inserts, and precision wear parts for progressive dies used in connector terminals, contact pins, and small electronic components. With stable carbide material, accurate grinding, and controlled cutting clearance, our tooling helps improve stamping consistency and reduce frequent tool replacement.

Semiconductor Lead Frame Stamping

Lead frame stamping requires clean cutting edges, stable pitch accuracy, and reliable wear resistance, especially when processing copper alloy and other thin conductive materials. We provide carbide punches, cutting dies, guide parts, and wear components for lead frame trimming, forming, and precision blanking applications. These parts are made to support smooth shearing, reduce burr formation, and help maintain stable production in high-volume semiconductor stamping.

Deep Drawing & Enclosure Forming

Deep drawing and enclosure forming require smooth tool surfaces, proper radii, and stable material flow to reduce scratching, cracking, and galling. We manufacture drawing punches, forming dies, cavity blocks, and polished tooling components for stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and other sheet metal parts.

Tool Materials & Coating Options

Choosing the right material and coating is important for punch life, edge stability, and stamping quality.

We select carbide, tool steel, HSS, or coated solutions based on your drawing, strip material, thickness, stamping speed, and expected tool life.

Material / Coating Type Available Options
Tungsten Carbide Materials FUJILLOY, EVERLOY, Sumitomo, GESAC, and Ceratizit.
(Specific Grades: F10, F20, TFS06, VD12, EF10, KD20, MC20)
Tool Steel Materials SKD11, SKH51, ASP23, and custom powdered tool steel options.
Coating Options DLC, Hard Chrome, TiCN, and custom anti-galling coatings based on SPM.
Custom Selection Based on your drawing, strip thickness, required tool life, and stamping conditions.

Punch & Die Manufacturing Capabilities

We use Wire EDM, EDM sinking, optical profile grinding, CNC grinding, and precision machining to manufacture custom punch and die components based on your drawings.

These processes help us control profiles, holes, sharp corners, cavities, clearances, and surface quality for different stamping applications.

Wire EDM

Achieving ultra-precise mating clearances for your custom punch and die sets. Perfect for complex geometries and tight-tolerance carbide machining.

Precision Grinding

Delivering flawless surface finishes and razor-sharp cutting edges on every custom punch. Ensures zero-burr shearing performance.

Die-sinking EDM

High-precision spark erosion for intricate die cavities and block profiles. Ensuring absolute concentricity for your complete punch and die assemblies.

Our Equipment List

Our equipment includes machines from Seibu, Sodick, MAKINO, OKAMOTO, AMADA, Haas, Hurco, and Beijing Jingdiao, helping us control profiles, sharp corners, cavities, holes, clearances, and surface quality for different stamping die applications.

Quality Control inspection

Precision Inspection
for Punch and Die Quality

Before shipment, each punch and die component is checked according to the drawing and key tolerance requirements.

We inspect critical dimensions, profiles, cutting edges, surface finish, and fit-related features to help ensure stable assembly and reliable stamping performance.

  • Cutting edge sharpness and zero-micro-chipping verification on every punch.

  • Exact profile matching and radii inspection via high-resolution optical comparators.

  • Sub-micron die clearance and cavity dimension verification.

  • Concentricity checks for pilot punches and standard tool shanks.

  • Surface finish (Ra) and micro-crack inspection under high-magnification microscopes.

  • Coating thickness and adhesion inspection for anti-galling performance.

  • Inspection reports can be provided based on your project requirements.

Why We Provide Engineer-Reviewed Quotes

We do not rely on automated algorithms for custom tooling. Every submitted drawing is meticulously reviewed by our engineering team to assess machining feasibility, verify material selection, and identify potential tolerance risks. This ensures you receive a highly accurate price, a realistic lead time, and a manufacturing plan tailored for your punch and die projects.

Our Ordering Process

We are a direct-to-factory manufacturer, not a brokered quote platform. Every component is engineered, machined, and inspected in-house at Sundi. This ensures complete control over technical precision, production lead times, and data security from your initial drawing to final delivery.

FAQs

What materials do you use for your punch and die components?

We primarily utilize premium micro-grain Tungsten Carbide (such as FUJILLOY and EVERLOY) for extreme wear resistance, and high-toughness Powdered Tool Steels (like ASP23 or SKH51) for heavy-duty impact requirements. We can tailor the material and PVD/CVD coatings to your specific strip material and stamping SPM.

Utilizing advanced Wire EDM and optical profile grinding (PG), we routinely achieve strict sub-micron mating clearances. Our overall machining tolerances are consistently controlled within ±0.001mm to ±0.002mm, ensuring zero-burr shearing for precision electronic and semiconductor components.

Standard or mildly customized tool steel components typically take 7-10 days. For highly complex geometries or specially coated tungsten carbide tooling, lead times generally range from 10 to 15 days, depending on your drawing specifications and current material inventory.

Regular maintenance, proper lubrication, and using high-quality materials with excellent wear and temperature resistance can help extend the lifespan of punch and die components.

Common types include blanking dies, bending dies, drawing dies, and coining dies, each designed for specific forming or cutting tasks in the manufacturing process.
